Mate both look great... but the bottom one is superb!

Why not trying to apply your preferred loose technique to a more hands on medium. You could even mix a few mediums together, in the loose style you like, to build up some detail.

But mate, great job.

Yeh, the extra detail really gives them a lot more depth. If you're having trouble adding detail, try starting with the biggest brush possible, but work down to smaller brushes as soon as you can see what it is you want start to appear. Also if I may indulge in one crit, the 2nd one has a bit of a lazy left eye going on. It just kinda jumped out at me, but the rest is coolio. Keep it up!

I really dig the second piece. You're really getting good at this especially with the details.

you know what i kinda dig the lazy eye thing, i think thats they thing that would make a piece rather than having a straight forward portrait, theres more interest in a portrait when the person has facial quirks lol but yeah great work

thanks for the comments guys,
in the refrence photo the left eye is a little off center but it's probably more pronounced in my painting... I have been going from big to smalls on the brushes, but big is just so much more fun! :)

If you use a small brush, but zoom right in, it's just like using a big brush!
